Although the weather kept us inside more than usual, it didn’t stop the fun and learning! This week, we embraced sensory play, exploring textures, creativity, and collaboration through play dough and sand.

The Magic of Play Dough

Play dough is more than just a fun activity—it’s a powerful tool for developing fine motor skills. As children squeeze, roll, shape, rip, and grip, they strengthen the muscles needed for future tasks like writing. Using various tools and their hands, they practice precision and control, all while having a great time!

Beyond skill-building, play dough also fosters collaboration. Working together in small groups, children share tools, exchange ideas, and celebrate their creations. We often hear excited voices exclaiming, “Look! Look! I made that!”—a reminder of the pride and joy that comes from hands-on learning.

Our Favorite Play Dough Recipe

Want to try making play dough at home? Here’s the simple recipe we love:

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup salt
  • 4 teaspoons cream of tartar
  • 2 cups lukewarm water
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil

Mix the ingredients together, cook over low heat until the dough forms, let it cool, and enjoy endless hours of creative play!

A Valentine’s Day to Remember

We also celebrated Valentine’s Day with a cozy pajama day and a special book exchange! The children gathered around a basket filled with wrapped books, eagerly waiting their turn. To make the moment extra special, we sang:

“_____ clown, _____ clown, who’s the silliest clown in town? Quick, quick, pick a book!”

One by one, each child selected and unwrapped a book, delighting in the surprise. Some wrapping paper proved tricky, but with patience and encouragement, everyone successfully uncovered their new story. It was a heartwarming moment of excitement, sharing, and joy.

Our week was filled with hands-on learning, creativity, and meaningful connections. We can’t wait for more adventures ahead!
