This week, we introduced the Pikler Triangle to the infant classroom. The Pikler triangle encourages children to move freely and expand their gross motor skills, encouraging coordination, strength, balance and confidence in themselves and what their bodies are capable of.

The addition of the Pikler Triangle allows teachers to support and scaffold the children while also allowing them the right to explore the climber. The children feel safe and secure knowing their teachers are close by if needed but are able to build their confidence with their climbing abilities. Here at Blue Leaf, we set up our classrooms and materials in a way where children can be independent and use the environment as the third teacher. The joy and smiles when these children are able to complete these tasks is amazing to watch!

Up and over, around the side, under the middle, shaking … all of the ways we can move around! We are excited to continue this exploration of free body movement.
