This week we spent over 4 hours a day outside. We did outside snack, lunch, and snack again! Our days were full of muddy toes, dirt under our fingernails, and reacquainting ourselves with spaces we hadn’t spent much time in during snow season. The lilac bushes welcomed many children into their branches and greeted them with new roots and shoots. The tunnel through our bushes has been traversed many times by many feet throughout this week.

We also looked back on fond memories of what was once a wildflower covered hill that our slide sat upon but through the winter that image has become more of a sad pile of dirt and rocks– so we used that as an opportunity to continue our outdoor beautification project. The toddlers supported this by helping to transport and aerate fresh soil while teachers carefully placed seeds that will hopefully bloom in the springtime bringing color and a few creepy crawlers into our space!

This reminded us all of the small insects and birds that used to roam our outdoor space. The children have been searching for lady bugs, roly-polys, and beetles.
They have snuggled into teachers laps while listening to bird songs and watching them fly from tree to tree.
