There are a hundred different languages that children use to communicate. While the toddlers are growing their verbal communication skills, they are practicing other ways of communicating, such as hugs, cuddles and gentle touches.

“The child is made of one hundred. The child has a hundred languages, a hundred hands, a hundred thoughts, a hundred ways of thinking, of playing, of speaking. A  hundred ways of listening, of marveling, of loving. A hundred joys, for singing and understanding, a hundred worlds to discover, a hundred worlds to invent, a hundred worlds to dream. The child has a hundred languages (and a hundred hundred hundred more) but they steal ninety-nine”  (Reggio Emilia Approach).

Children are naturally empathetic human beings, often showing concern for each other’s feelings without being taught. They check in on each other often while giving space when needed. These bonds and relationships are stemmed from kindness and social connections.

As toddler teachers, we are so excited to see the community forming within these children and families. They are compassionate, caring and empathetic people building long-lasting relationships that we are eager to be a part of!
